Cranberry Orange Cookies

cranberry orange cookies

Easy cranberry orange cookies recipe topped with a sweet, zesty orange glaze. Perfect for Christmas cookies!

For the cookies:
3 cups all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup white sugar
½ cup packed brown sugar
1 large egg
2 teaspoons orange zest
2 tablespoons freshly squeezed orange juice
2 cups chopped fresh cranberries or dried cranberries soaked in water
1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

For the glaze:
½ teaspoon grated orange zest
3 tablespoons orange juice
1 ½ cups confectioners' sugar

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees and line two cookie sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and sat. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream the butter and white sugar until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes. Slowly add in the brown sugar, mixing for another full minute. Add the egg and mix until well combined. Add the orange zest and orange juice, mix on low until all ingredients are well combined.
  4. Slowly stir in the flour mixture and then add the cranberries. If you like, you can add in 1/2 cup chopped walnuts.
  5. Using a small cookie scoop, add the dough to the parchment-lined cookie sheet, being sure to keep the dough about 2" apart to allow spreading.
  6. Bake 12-14 minutes, just until the edges begin to turn golden. Allow to cool on the cookie sheet for 5 minutes, then remove to a wire rack to ensure cookies are completely cool before adding the glaze.
  7. Once the cookies are fully cooled, combine the orange zest, orange juice, and confectioners' sugar until smooth. If it seems a bit runny, add more sugar. If it's too thick, add a bit more juice.
  8. Drizzle the glaze on top of the cookies and allow the glaze a few minutes to harden. Enjoy!

HINT: For easy clean up, I place the cookies on the wire rack back on top of the cooled parchment-lined cookie sheet so it catches all the glaze that doesn't make it onto the cookie.

STORAGE: Cookies will stay fresh in a sealed container on the counter for 4-5 days.

FREEZER OPTION: If you'd like to freeze these cookies, do it before adding the glaze. Simply allow them to cool completely, add them to a freezer bag and squeeze all the air out. Defrost on the counter, then add the glaze if desired.
