Instant Pot Shredded Chicken Breast

This easy Instant Pot Shredded Chicken Breast is simple and can even be made with frozen chicken breasts. Simply add all the ingredients to the Instant Pot, cook on high pressure for ten minutes, allow a natural release for 5 minutes, then release the pressure. That’s it! Your chicken will be fork-tender and ready to eat!

NOTE: If you use frozen chicken breasts, it will take the Instant Pot just a little longer to come to pressure but the chicken will be just as delicious.

NOTE: You can make this shredded chicken up to three days in advance to use in soups, casseroles, tacos, meal prep, or whatever your heart desires! Just keep in a sealed, refrigerated container.

Gather up your ingredients:

Add the chicken breast to the Instant Pot. Mix together the garlic salt, pepper, and chicken stock.

Pour over the chicken breast.

Set Instant Pot to high pressure for 10 minutes. Allow 5 minutes of natural release, then do a quick release.

Remove chicken from Instant Pot, shred with forks, return to the pot to soak up chicken stock for a few minutes, then serve.

Ingredients

3 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breast (fresh or frozen)
1 cup chicken stock (homemade is best)
1 teaspoon garlic salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Add the chicken breast to the bottom of the Instant Pot. Stir the garlic salt and pepper into the chicken stock, then pour over the chicken breast.
  2. Set Instant Pot to high pressure for 10 minutes. Allow 5 minutes of natural release, then do a quick release.
  3. Remove chicken from Instant Pot, shred with forks, return to the pot to soak up chicken stock for a few minutes, then serve.

Notes

If you’d like to make the shredded chicken for use later, simply allow it to cool, then store in a sealed, refrigerated container. I like to add a few tablespoon of the chicken stock it cooked in to the container to help the chicken breast retain moisture.
